Please expect a visit from the representatives of Deepmoat within days of receiving this letter. King Griffin comes to you with a proposition that will join your kingdoms and create peace in the lands.

I read the letter several times, trying to figure out what this all means. What is this talk of peace? Thornwood has not been at war for many years, at least not with humankind. There is a reason that we have never had a real army, devoting our efforts instead to tending the lands of our goddess.

And what does the King of Deepmoat want with me? Surely this is not a marriage proposition? I have made it very clear to my subjects and to other kingdoms that I am not interested in marrying a man. Perhaps he is proposing a marriage of convenience, a marriage to bond our kingdoms, but why? What would we stand to gain?

I hear a horn outside and look out onto the road leading up to the castle. It seems my guests have arrived earlier than expected. I watch as a golden carriage trundles up the cobbled road, the horses inelegant as they pull my guest up the hill. I sigh. I suppose I will have to deal with this now and find out what this king wants.

But if he thinks he is leaving here with a wife, he has another thing coming.
